U3-38C0XCP comes in a completely closed 29 x 29 x 17mm zinc die-cast housing with an integral C-mount lens holder.
“The sensors belonging to Sony’s Starvis 2 series are designed for maximum light sensitivity,” according to IDS. “We offer this rolling shutter sensor with anti-reflection coating, which further improves the image quality.”
Communication (U3V protocol) is via a USB 3.0 Micro B connector at up to 5Gbit/s and a maximum of 93 frame/s is available at the maximum 1,968 x 1,100 resolution. Exposure can be varied across 9μs to 2s.
Power is enters through the USB connector (0.5 and 1.2W), and a second 8pin connector offers USB 5V at 400mA, 3.3Vout, a flash output, a trigger input (images can also be triggered via software), and two GPIOs.
There is one monochrome variant and two colour variants – Electronics Weekly has asked for the differences between the two colour versions.
The cameras are also available in a housing-less bare board series, one monochrome and one colour, called U3-38C2XLS and measuring 29 x 29 x 7mm.
Generically called the XCP and XLS series by the company, similar models are available with different sensors up to 20Mpixel.
