Tiny photo relays from Toshiba are 2mm long

Toshiba has introduced a photo-relay in a 1.45 x 2mm package that switches on in 250μs – 50% quicker than its existing TLP3475S.

Toshiba TLP3476S photo relay

The new part, TLP3476S, is in a 1.5mm high (max) S-VSON4T package, has a maximum on-resistance of 1.5Ω, can carry 400mA (ac or dc) and isolates up to 500Vrms.

3mA is the maximum LED drive needed to operate the device (30mA abs max), and operation is across -40 to 110°C.

Applications are expected in semiconductor testers, probe cards and other instrumentation.

  1. Very interesting! I didn’t even know about opto-couplers with mosfets, or that they called photo relays.

    • Good morning Mr Kurt
They are indeed clever, and International Rectifier used to do just the isolated voltage transfer part so that external mosfets could be added.
That said, some of the integrated mosfet versions now already include low on-resistance or high voltage mosfets.
