It turned to capital equipment distributor Altus, which recommended Promation’s Quick 9434 four-axis soldering robot which for consistency, according to Altus, has closed-loop temperature control up to 500°C and a toothed gear solder wire feeder that also perforates the wire to maximises flux core out-gassing to minimise solder splashing.
With the robot “May & Scofield has automated the delicate process of flex circuit soldering, addressing their complex manufacturing challenge”, said Altus.
The Quick 9434 has a 570 x 570mm footprint and is 790mm tall. Movement range is 400 x 400 x 100mm, and repetition accuracy is ±20μm in all three directions and ±0.02° for the rotational axis.
May & Scofield is based in Baisingstoke UK, Altus has a UK site in Worcestershire and another in County Cork Ireland, and Promation operates out of Wisconsin.
