TeraSignal, the photonics specialist, has announced an intelligent re-driver device for scaling AI bandwidth in data centers. The TS8401/02 intelligent 400G (4x100G) PAM4 modulator driver claims to be the industry’s first CMOS IC with digital link training and link monitoring for 800G linear pluggable optical (LPO) modules. “TeraSignal’s intelligent CMOS solution for LPO modules redefines high-speed interconnects, merging low latency and power efficiency with unmatched link performance measurement capabilities, diagnostics, and quick time to market,” said Dr. Armond Hairapetian, its founder and CEO.

4. Synopsys buys Intrinsic
Synopsys has bought Intrinsic ID, the provider of Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) IP for SoCs. The acquisition adds production proven PUF IP to Synopsys’ IP portfolio, enabling SoC designers to protect their SoCs by generating a unique identifier on chip using the inherent and distinctive characteristics of every silicon chip. The acquisition also adds Intrinsic ID’s team of R&D engineers who have expertise in PUF technology.

Resasas has put its in-house developed 32bit RISC-V core into a few-pin general-purpose MCU series, following earlier RISC-V projects with Anders and SiFive. Renesas inHouse risc-v-core-blockAnnounced last November, the core implementation can accommodate various standard RISC-V options, to which Renesas has added its own options including: a stack monitor register to protect against rogue software, a dynamic branch prediction unit improve the average execution throughput, and a context-saving register bank to speed interrupt response.


2. Einstein’s Driver [Mannerisms]
There is a very silly story about Einstein which one would like to hope is true. Einstein had a driver who used to sit at the back of the room when he gave his public lectures. One day when they were in the car the driver said to Einstein that the theory of relativity was so simple that even he could lecture on it. Einstein told him that the driver could give the next lecture and he would sit at the back.

Infineon is aiming at automotive power control with a 5 x 7mm top-side cooled surface-mount package, pitching it against the 5 x 6mm bottom-cooled SSO8. The package, SSO10T, has a 10μm gap instead of a thermal pad on the PCB side, and around 95% of heat will leave through the top, according to the company, typically to the ECU housing or a cold-plate. It is expected to be used with a thermal interface pad to accommodate tolerance between PCB and heatsink surface.
