Photo-relay operates from 1.6V for FPGA compatibility

Toshiba is eyeing semiconductor test applications with a tiny photo-relay that operates at 1.6Vin “making it suitable for use with 1.8V FPGAs”, according to the company. “A resistor is built in on the primary side, enabling voltage-controlled operation.”

Called TLP3412SRLA, it draws 6.6mA at the nominal operating voltage of 1.8V.

Inside is a single Form-A (normally-open) ac or dc contact that can handle 48V, or 400mA continuously, or 1.2A pulsed.

On-state resistance is typically 1Ω and it switches on-off in 350 and 150μs respectively.

Isolation voltage is at least 500Vrms.

Operation is up to +125°C and packaging is 1.45 x 2 x 1.4mm S-VSON4.

“It is common to test semiconductors at elevated temperatures, and with photo-relays placed on the probe card they will be required to operate in high ambient temperatures,” said Toshiba.

Use is also foreseen in programmable logic controllers.
