Gaggione has produced a family of 45mm collimators for cob (chip-on-board) leds.
VEGA45V produces a 50° beam
Called Vega, they follow on from its 45mm LLC59 colimators.
Like LLC59, Vega collimators will be available in PMMA plastic, but also in polycarbonate.
There are eight beam options, some of them compatible with colour mixing or tunable white use.
Compatibility is said to be full for CoBs up to 6mm in diameter, then “partial” from there to 9mm.
They are:
- VEGA45U ultra narrow, 8.5° beam
- VEGA45UF ultra narrow frosted, 9° beam
- VEGA45N narrow, 9° beam
- VEGA45C colour, 11° beam
- VEGA45M medium, 25° beam
- VEGA45W wide, 34° beam
- VEGA45V very large, 50° beam
- VEGA45E elliptical, 9-33° beam
From the ‘colour’ version downwards, all are suitable for tuneable-white, RGBW and dim-to-warm applications. Beam angles are FWHM (full width half max, so 34° is ±17°) measured with PMMA collimators using a 6mm emitter Citizen CLU7S3. The very large beam type is in the pipeline.
Taking the ultra-narrow PMMA VEGA45U (right) as an example, the data sheet provides these beam angles:
Citizen CLU7S3 |
Cree CXB1310 |
Cree CXB1520 |
Luminus CXM_3 |
|
FWHM | 8.6° | 12.7 | 17.9 | 8.1 |
FWTM | 14.7° | 21.8 | 30.8 | 13.4 |
Efficacy | 35.2cd/lm | 14.6 | 6.1 | 40.5 |
And the website shows the polycarbonate VEGA45U delivering 9.1° FWHM from a CLU7S3.
Matching holders are available.
