45W leds hit 5,000 lumens

Cree XHP70.3 HI lighting led

XLamp XHP70.3 leds are the third generation of Cree’s ‘extreme high power led series’, with improved optical performance versus the previous generations, with higher intensity through optics than the second generation and with the XHP family’s highest on-axis intensity. They are optimised for outdoor and lighting applications that require large amounts of light output from small luminaires, such as in ...

Integrated power controller for LED lighting

5F85942C-074F-4B65-BFD6-90286F1CD38F-300x200.jpeg

ST has launched a digital power controller with distortion mitigation suitable for LED-lighting applications. The STNRG012 contains a multimode power-factor correction (PFC) controller, resonant half-bridge controller, and 800V startup circuit, managed by a digital engine. The PFC controller changes dynamically between transition-mode, discontinuous-current mode (DCM), and valley skipping for optimum efficiency. The half-bridge controller executes ST’s time-shift control (TSC) for soft switching. With ...

UK GaN micro-LED display at San Jose Display Week

Porotech demo display

Cambridge GaN colour micro-LED company Porotech will be unveiling a multi-colour display technology at Display Week in California next week, using identical pixels from a single wafer to create colour. Its “PoroGaN platform makes it possible for each individual tiny LED on an epiwafer to emit all colours of the visible spectrum”, according to the company. “At this stage, the proof-of-concept displays ...

Green laser diode for human-visible dot projection

Osram_PLT5_522EA_Q

Osram has introduced a green laser diode as a replacement for red lasers in human-visible applications such as levelling, scanning and dot projection. Called PLT5 522EA_Q it “enables manufacturers to benefit from the 4x brighter appearance of a green laser compared to red”, according to the company. “The laser has been tested for lifetime at 70°C [and] its ratings are ...

Large sky blue perovskite LED, perhaps for lighting

USTC skyBlue PeLED

Large-area sky-blue perovskite LEDs have been created at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The precursor, a CsPb(Br0.84Cl0.16)3 solution using a custom solvent blend, was blade-coating onto a substrate where the substance crystallised into grains – halide amine additives controlled he growth of perovskite grains and passivate the traps. “They partially replaced dimethyl ...

GaN 500W conduction cooled ac-dc PSUs with PMBus

TDK PFH500F-48 500W psu

TDK-Lambda has announced 12V and 48V models of its 504W conduction-cooled PFH500F series of ac-dc power modules measuring 102 x 61 x 13.5mm (4 x 2.4in). Inside PFH500F-12 and PFH500F-48 are GaN power transistors, ‘bridge-less’ power factor correction and digital control, with digital isolators replacing optocouplers for reliability. Peak efficiency is 92%. PMBus is included for programming and remotely monitoring. Operating from ...

Tiny photo-relay for test and measurement

Omron G3VM-201W photo relay pic

Omron is aiming at test and measurement with a miniature 200V 350mA mosfet opto-relay. In a 3.4 x 2.1mm P-SON (power small outline no lead) package and operating across -40 to +110°C, “this device can realise a current load of 75% higher than a comparable SOP4 type relay”, said the company, justifying this with the figure 49mA/mm2 for the P-SON relay and ...

High-power IR LEDs from Vishay

Vishay_Semiconductor_VMSA_IR-Emitter

Vishay has released a family of six high-power infra-red emitters in 3.4 x 3.4mm lead-less packages. They are “designed with a 42mil chip for 1.5A dc operation, with  support for pulsed currents up to 5A”, according to New Yorker Electronics, which is stocking the parts. They come in two wavelengths and three viewing angles. The parts are: VSMA1085400 860nm 925mW/sr ±40° VSMA1085250 ...

2W xenon light source spans UV to IR for analysis and measurement

Excelitas-uPAX-300-from-Solid-State-Supplie

Excelitas has introduced a precision-aligned 2W xenon light engine for light-based measurements. Called µPAX-3, it includes an EMI-suppressing enclosure, the xenon flash lamp light source, a trigger circuit and a power supply – all within 42mm square by 31mm deep (plus connector), which is smaller and more robust than the existing µPAX-2, according to the manufacturer. “These miniaturised modules can ...
