Fixed frequency DC-DC converter

Linear Technology has announced the LT3462/A, a 40V, 300mA inverting DC-DC converter with onboard Schottky diode packaged in a ThinSOT.

The LT3462 switches at a constant 1.2MHz, while the “A” version switches at 2.7MHz. Both devices operate from an input voltage of 2.5V to 16V and can deliver output voltages up to -38V.

An input voltage range of 2.5V to 16V makes the LTC3462/A ideal for single cell Li-Ion, or multi-cell NiMH or alkaline applications, as well as other fixed rail systems. It can be negatively biased for CCD and LCD applications as well as general-purpose negative voltage supplies. It can deliver up to 100mA at -5V from a 5V input.

The LT3462/A operates in a dual inductor inverting topology that filters both the input side and output side currents. Low output voltage ripple – better then 1mV pk-to-pk – can be achieved with ceramic capacitors. Fixed frequency switching improves the output quality, said the firm, and reducing low frequency noise. The 40V switch allows VIN to VOUT differentials of up to 38V for dual inductor topologies.

Pricing for the LT3462/A starts at $2.05 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
