LTE modules get EU’s RED cybersecurity certification

U-blox’ LARA-R6 LTE Cat 1 and LARA-L6 LTE Cat 4 cellular modules have been certified to Radio Equipment Directive (RED) cybersecurity, having passed RED article 3.3 d/e/f requirements using ETSI’s EN 303 645 standard.

With stricter regulations on the horizon, manufacturers are therefore racing to meet the highest security standards,” said the company, “u-blox is proud to b the first module maker in the market to have its LTE Cat 1 and LTE Cat 4 cellular modules certified by the European Union’s Cybersecurity Certification.”

The EU will mandate the RED certification for all wireless products by summer 2025, according to u-blox, ETSI’s (European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s EN 303 645 standard is the basis for the RED certification, and is influential outside Europe, it added.


u-blox worked with Eurofins E&E on the certification, a company which tests and evaluates to standards including ETSI EN 303 645 and IEC 62443, and is an EU Notified Body for RED Article 3.3 d/e/f.
