Power source scavenges energy

The University of Southampton has spun-out a company called Perpetuum to make power sources which scavenge vibrational energy from the environment.

The firm’s target markets is ad-hoc sensing networks.

The intellectual property comes from Professor Neil White of the university’s engineering department. “The university worked for a number of years on piezoelectric generators but were unable to get enough power at the frequencies of interest,” said Freeland.


Funding for Perpetuum comes from investor IP2IPO and the Sulis fund.
