Element14 Learning Circuit video series covers BBC micro:bit

Element14, Farnell’s online community dedicated to engineering discussion and education, is supplementing classroom-based STEM with a free series of videos entitled ‘The Learning Circuit’.

First launched in 2017, the series, hosted by Karen Corbeill, still sees regular uploads. A recent series focused on the BBC micro:bit, taking viewers through “different ways to learn and explore with the BBC micro:bit”. The short videos explain how to apply the BBC micro:bit to designs and offers “instruction and advice on bringing projects to life”.learning circuit

The series’ format sees Corbeill introduce a given component or idea one episode before demonstrating an example project using that technology in the next.

Corbeill says: “Getting started with electronics can be quite daunting. The BBC micro:bit is a great gateway tool with an amazing number of features for such a low price point.

“From being able to program using code blocks or simply clipping on accessories without having to solder or even just grabbing a piece of pre-programmed code, it’s a wonderful way to get newbies hooked on electronics.”

Interestingly, while the rest of The Learning Circuit is available on YouTube, the BBC micro:bit series is only available direct from the Element14 website, and requires users register an account before they can watch. Fortunately, an account is free and only asks for an email address and country of birth vis-à-vis personal details.
