CES: Samsung curves 34in QLED monitor and adds Thunderbolt

Samsung has unveiled a curved 34in QLED monitor with a Thunderbolt 3 connector.

“The CJ791 monitor is the first curved monitor to feature Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 connectivity,” said Samsung. “Designed for entertainment and business audiences, the 34in model aligns single-source power and processing speed with an exceptional picture quality for a comfortable and productive user experience.”

Through a single Thunderbolt 3 cable, users can dock the monitor to a laptop with data up to 40 Gbit/s and power up to 85W.


“As the pioneer of the curved monitor industry, Samsung continues to seek new ways to refine our displays and exceed consumers’ expectations on heightened performance and presentation,” said Samsung v-p of displays Seog-gi Kim.


Aspect ratio is 21:9 at 3,440 x 1,440 QHD resolution and 125% sRGB spectrum is claimed from the firm’s ‘QLED’ (quantum-dot light-emitting diodes) panel.

Curvature is 1,500R, and viewing angle is 178° – all this, and the stand is height-adjustable and tilts.

Despite its pitch to professionals, the firm it also trying to excite gamers, with a claimed 4ms response time in ‘game mode’, which also adds dynamic gamma setting “that intuitively adjusts colour and contrast of each individual scene to produce a true-to-life environment”.

Samsung is at CES (booth 15,006, on Level 1 of the Central Hall) in the Las Vegas Convention Center, 9-12 jan.

  1. It’s not OLED, it’s QLED. It’s very different.

  2. This is not an OLED monitor, but a QLED one (quantum-dots enhanced LED LCD)…

  3. The title should be changed from 34in OLED to 34in QLED (QD-LCD).
