Electronica: Linear Tech features IoT SmartMesh radio

Linear Technology is to show two third-party IoT network product ranges at Electronica in Munich, based on its SmartMesh radios.

Linear Tech Vicotee - Electronica: Linear Tech features IoT SmartMesh radioNorwegian company Vicotee Njord is offering wireless sensors to replace wired sensors.

“The product is an off-the-shelf solution that will enable companies and public services to connect with traditional wired sensors over the Internet through a single wireless network,” said the firm. “Nodes are developed for low power consumption, allowing batteries to last for 10 years. These standard nodes will support most sensor protocols out of the box.”

These nodes are part of the company’s system, that also includes gateways, cloud services (APIs) and web based reporting tools – which can be delivered as a stand-alone package or integrated into third party solutions.

Applications are expected in building automation, environmental monitoring, off-shore, green energy, smart cities, healthcare, hospitals or home.

Claimed network reliability is >99.999%.

Linear Tech MicroPnPVersaSense is the other firm, presenting what it claims is the “world’s first plug-and-play IoT platform for sensing-as-a-service based on SmartMesh IP.”

Called MicroPnP, it is claimed to need zero-configuration, while offering plug-and-play integration, 24/7 monitoring and control of devices across different sites.

“The platform offers a complete hardware and software platform supporting over 50 different plug-and-play sensors that instantly integrate with any network to provide instant sensing and control,” said VersaSense. “Open standards and protocols ensure seamless interoperation with no-vendor lock-in.”

Once more, >99.999% end-to-end data reliability is claimed, due to using SmartMesh components, as is a decade of battery life. Battery levels for devices are tracked over the network.

The nodes are already in use, according to VersaSense, in places from factories to data centres, on smart farms, and in home energy management.

SmartMesh IP products include chips, and pre-certified PCB modules complete with ready-to-use mesh networking software.

They are designed to meet 6LoWPAN (and are therefore internet protocol compatible) and 802.15.4e standards.

Multi-hop meshes of wireless nodes self-form to collect and relay data, and a network manager monitors and manages network performance and security, and exchanges data with the host application.
