“TI developed a device screening specification called ‘space high-grade in plastic’ [‘SHP’] for radiation-hardened products and introduced ADCs that meet the SHP qualification,” according to the company. “TI also introduced product families to the radiation-tolerant Space EP [‘enhanced plastic’] portfolio.”
The SHP specification includes BGA packages for radiation-hardened semiconductors.
In 10 x 10 x 1.9mm flip-chip BGA are RHA (radiation-hardness-assured) ADCs with communcation at 17.1Gbit/s:
- ADC12DJ5200-SP – 12bit dual 5.2Gsample/s or single 10.4Gsample/s, 8GHz analogue input bandwidth (-3dB)
- ADC12QJ1600-SP – 12bit quad 1.6Gsample/s, 6GHz full-power input bandwidth
Radiation specs are: 300krad TID (total ionising dose), 120MeVcm2/mg SEL (single event latch-up) and “single event upset immune registers”, said TI.
TPS7H500x-SEP is a family of 4-14Vin Space EP PWM dc-dc converter controllers that support multiple power-supply topologies and mix and match: synchronous rectification, adjustable dead time, adjustable leading edge blank time and a configurable duty cycle limit.
Packaging is 4.4 x 7.8mm 24pad TSSOP and these score: SEL, SEB and SEGR immune to 43MeVcm2/mg LET, SET and SEFI characterised up to 43MeVcm2/mg LET and TID assured for every wafer lot up to 50krad.
Space EP and SHP devices can be bought through ti.com and authorised distributors. Users can select specific date and lot codes before placing ti.com orders, and each QML lot ships with a certificate of conformance per MIL-PRF-38535.
