Powell - Conesys MIL-DTL-26482 connectors

This style of connector, Conesys AE7 series, has a bayonet coupling and rear-removable crimp contacts.

Shells are aluminium or stainless, said Powell (the catalogue linked below says mild steel or stainless, Electronics Weekly has requested clarification), and there are four receptacle-mounting styles: narrow flange wall-mounting, wide flange wall-mounting, cable connecting and jam-nut-mounting – the latter incorporate O-ring seals and are designed for rear mounting in D-shaped holes mounting.

Plugs are available in two designs: with or without RFI grounding.

Thirty-three insert arrangements per MIL-STD-1669 are tooled and qualified to MIL-DTL-26482 Series 2, and use three to 61 M39029 contacts.

Contacts come in sizes 20 (5A), 16(10A) or 12 (17A), and can terminate wires from 24 to 12 gauge.

Operation is over -55 to +200°C, and shock and vibration tolerance is in accordance with MIL-STD-202, Method 204, Condition B.

A minimum of 500 mating cycles is to be expected.

Depending on contact arrangement, shell sizes cover 8 to 24 – where the mounting hole varies from ~14.5mm to ~40mm.

Powell Electronics distributes the connectors of other companies and makes its own in New Jersey in a facility certified to ISO9001 and AS9100. In Europe, it operates from a headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

Conesys has manufacturing and assembly facilities in California and Mexico.
