MediaTek has signed a franchise agreement with Rutronik to distribute IoT chipsets to device makers in Europe and Israel

MediaTek’s Genio multi-core processors are designed for robotics, industrial automation, and IoT applications. The series targets consumer, enterprise and industrial smart applications at the premium, mid-range and entry levels, explained Rutronik. Processors can be used in the design of IoT projects including smart home appliances, industrial automation applications, robotics, POS (point of sale) devices and digital signage, for example,

The Genio series offers fast multi-core performance with high energy efficiency, even for computationally intensive applications, said MediaTek. Its development environment allows designers to customise products using Yocto Linux, Ubuntu, and Android and can be combined with the company’s development kits help to reduce the costs of development in the long term and accelerate time to market.

Rutronik’s Embedded portfolio also offers board products with different form factors from Advantech, Kontron, Seco, and VIA using the Genio chipsets to offer a comprehensive ecosystem from the product to the design, said the distributor.

Richard Lu, vice president of MediaTek’s IoT business unit, enthused: “As the largest European distributor, Rutronik will help us to further expand our IoT footprint in the region,” said. “We are continuing to see a strong demand for consumer, enterprise, and industrial smart applications . . . to help brands bring intelligent devices to market faster.”
