High-rel NP0 ceramic capacitors for military use

Kyocera has announced NP0 dielectric MLCCs (multi-layer ceramic capacitors) approved to the Defense Logistics Agency Qualified Products Database (DLA QPD) for high-reliability military applications.

Kyocera DLA MIL-PRF-32535 BME NP0 MLCC

“The new MIL-PRF-32535 BME NP0 MLCCs have higher CV capabilities than standard surface-mount PME MLCCs qualified to military and aerospace specifications and are currently available in M and T reliability levels and 0402, 0603, and 0805 case sizes and rated for 68 – 1,500pF and 4 – 100V,” according to the company.

They have also got Kyocera’s Flexiterm-branded terminals to increase resistance to the thermo-mechanical stress. ‘BME’ in the part description stands for ‘base metal electrode’.

Lead time for the series is currently 22 weeks for M-level (Group A) and 38 weeks for T-level reliability parts (Groups A and B) – although try distributors Avnet, Arrow or TTI for a chance of faster delivery, said Kyocera.

For non-flight prototyping and verification, shorter lead times are also available, according to the company, by substituting parts from the its ‘EM’ (engineering module) range which includes form, fit and function NP0 BME equivalents. “This series covers capacitors in the ESCC 3009041, NASA S311-P838, and MIL 32535 ranges and uses the same materials as the fully qualified part numbers, just without the final DLA and European Space Components Coordination (ESCC) testing and screening processes and QPD/QPL listings”.

Applications are foreseen in filtering, tuning, decoupling, timing and blocking circuits.

Full part numbers can be found through the MIL-PRF-32535 BME NP0 product page
