Another industry expert – Jan Tobias Muehlberg of Imec-DistriNet – will be speaking at the one day conference devoted to the design of secure hardware and software, with a particular emphasis on the IoT.
The title of his talk is: Securing Distributed Embedded Computing With a Minimal TCB
He tells us:
In this talk I will present an ongoing line of very practical research that uses Protected Module Architectures (PMAs) to guarantee authenticity, integrity and confidentiality properties of event-driven distributed applications.
PMAs make it possible to protect individual software modules of an application against attacks from other modules or even from a malicious or misbehaving operating system. Several PMAs that ensure isolation of software components have been released, including ARM TrustZone and Intel SGX for mobile devices and the server and desktop market, and Sancus for lightweight embedded microcontrollers.
He will focus on the lightweight hardware-only TCB Sancus, he says, but discuss interaction points with technologies for other environments.
He’ll also outline Imec-DistriNet’s work on related challenges such as using PMAs to provide availability and real-time guarantees and on guaranteeing the absence of vulnerabilities and runtime errors in protected software modules.

Meet key suppliers and future partners
Alongside the conference, an exhibition of security technology suppliers will give you, as an attendee, valuable insight into the latest products and techniques to ensure the systems you develop are secure now and in the future.
In the relaxed and tech-focused CodeNode environment, equipment and software will be on show that can help solve your daily security issues and answer your questions on which technologies you should be deploying.
