It has been specifically developed for automotive applications, and meets requirements according to AEC-Q200, including the highest AEC-Q200 requirements regarding mechanical shock and terminal strength.
However, it is also suitable wherever maximum pulse resistance, thermal resistance and high mechanical loads meet.
“Usual fuses have some kind of memory,” according to the firm. “If they are exposed to pulse-shaped current peaks and high temperature fluctuations, their properties change. Every pulse makes it a little weaker, every temperature fluctuation a little more susceptible. Not so with the UAI 1206.”
Particular construction is used to increase resistance to current pulses smaller than the melting integral (I2t), resulting in “practically no de-rating to the usual extent”, said Schurter. The design also dampens temperature fluctuations. Sealing is hermetic to block the ingress of potting compound.
It is offered in two versions, rated at 5.3A or 7.5A.
