3.8-32V automotive buck converters in TSOT26

Diodes has launched a series of automotive-compliant synchronous buck converters for delivering up to 3A in automotive point-of-load converters in 3 x 2.8mm TSOT26 packages

With 2A and 3A ratings, AP6320xQ and AP6330xQ respectively can operate with inputs from 3.8 to 32V and over -40 to +125°C.

3A versions integrate 70/40mΩ (high/low-side) mosfets, or 125/68mΩ for the 2A parts.

The output of adjustable types can be set between 0.8V and Vin using two resistors. All devices also enter low-drop-out mode when the input voltage approaches the output voltage.

At heavy load, all devices run in fixed-frequency peak current PWM mode, then some (..01Q types excepted) slip into PFM mode at light load to bring low quiescent current (down to 22µA) and more efficiency (up to 88% at 5mA). To reduce radiated EMI at any particular frequency, PFM-capable types include ±6% frequency jittering to spread the output spectrum.

To dampen high frequency radiated EMI noise, all types have a proprietary multi-level gate drive to cut ringing on the switching node “without sacrificing the switching node’s rise and fall slew rates as well as the converter’s power efficiency”, said Diodes.

Protections include under-voltage lock-out, output over-voltage and thermal shutdown. Under-voltage lock-out operates at 3.06V, but can be increased by adding two resistors to the enable pin. Cycle-by-cycle current limiting is included.

The parts are AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, PPAP capable and manufactured in IATF 16949 certified facilities.

Applications are foreseen in power trains, instrumentation clusters, telematics, body electronics, lighting, driver assistance systems and infotainment systems, according tot he company – so just about anywhere on a car then…
