800mA brushed dc servo controller for automotive and industrial

Diodes has created a servo motor controller, complete with H-bridge mosfets and provision for potentiometer position feedback, for brushed dc motors in automotive manual headlight beam servos and industrial control servos.

Diodes ZXBM5408Q servo controller

Called ZXBM5408Q, operation is over -40 to +125°C and 8 to 18V (45V transient survival), and up to 800mA (1.5A peak).

Diodes ZXBM5408Q servo diagIt integrates voltage and temperature compensated internal references and amplifiers, and is programmable by resistors to set forward hysteresis, reverse hysteresis, dead-band and angle amplification.

“To help protect the motor coil, by stopping the motor and disconnecting the output stage, the ZXBM5408Q provides fault protection such as Range input short to ground, short-to-supply voltage or broken wire,” according to the company. “In case of supply under-voltage and over-voltage, the device shuts down the output drive. The over-current protection monitors the output current and shuts down the outputs stage with periodic re-try. Over-temperature shut-down provides thermal protection for the device.”

The hysteresis window can be set via the Hyst pin – if its external resistances are equal, the hysteresis window is located symmetrically at 50±2% of the supply voltage, and varying their ratio moves it. Adjusting these resistance values relative to the external Ref and feedback resistors changes the size of the window: if the resistances are both halved in comparison to Rref and Rfb, the window becomes 50±4%.

To calm uncontrolled movements of the servo if the potentiometer or reference input connections are shorted or open-connected, two additional switch-off thresholds are provided to turn off the output. The window comparator for these thresholds is behind the Range input.

Packaging is PDIP-8 or SO-14, and qualification is to AEC-Q100 Grade 1 amd it is “PPAP capable and manufactured in IATF 16949 certified facilities”, said Diodes.
