congatec bases COM Express Compact modules on Intel Core Ultra processors

A range of COM Express modules released by congatec are based on the Intel Core Ultra processors, which integrate a neural processing unit (NPU) called Intel AI Boost.

According to congatec, the conga-TC700 COM Express Compact Type 6 computer on modules (CoMs) can be used to integrate AI workloads with lower system complexity and costs than using discrete accelerators. c

The Intel Core Ultra processors (codenamed Meteor Lake) are x86 client SoCs with up to six (power) P cores and up to eight (efficient) E cores and two low power E cores, supporting up to 22 threads. The modules also include the SoC-integrated Intel Arc GPU with up to 8 Xe cores and up to 128 execution units to handle graphics up to 2x 8K resolution and fast GPGPU-based vision data (pre)processing.  The modules also have up to 96GB DDR SO-DIMM with in-band ECC at 5600MTps for high data throughput and low latency.

Processor options for the modules in the conga-TC700 series are the Intel Core Ultra 7 125H, Intel Core Ultra 7 155 U, Ultra 5 125H and the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U. With max 4.3-4.8GHz P core operation and 3.6 or 3.8GHz E core operation depending on the module.  Operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C.

The modules can be ordered with pre-evaluated real-time hypervisor technology from Real-Time Systems for virtual machine deployments and workload consolidation in edge computing scenarios. Service offerings include shock and vibration tests, temperature screening and high-speed signal compliance testing.

The new conga-TC700 COM Express Compact Type 6 modules support the embedded temperature range from  and are available in the following standard configurations:

The company envisages the modules will be used for real time computing and AI in surgery robots and medical imaging and diagnostic systems, as well as in industrial applications such as inspection systems, stationary robotic arms, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), for situational awareness.

They can improve time to market for implementing AI capabilities. “OEMs can simply upgrade existing applications by exchanging the module and instantly gain access to cutting-edge AI technologies. It has never been easier to integrate artificial intelligence in x86-based systems,” said Tim Henrichs, vice president of global marketing and business development at congatec.
