“In recent years, power supplies for lighting and motors for pumps are required to be smaller as devices become more sophisticated – spurring the demand for compact mosfets that are essential for switching operation,” said the company. “Generally, however, it has been difficult to reduce the size [from 6.6 x 10 x 2.3mm TO-252] while maintaining a balance between breakdown voltage and on-resistance.”
By altering the shape of the package’s mounted chip, it has produced five SOT-223-3 mosfets, reducing area and thickness, but maintaining back-compatibility with the TO-252 footprint so that existing PCBs can be used.
Of the new parts, three are optimised for power supplies, and two for motor control. Max power dissipation varies per part, but is in the region of 10W.
“R6004END4 is characterised by low noise, while R6003KND4 and R6006KND4 are capable of high-speed switching,” said the company. “R6002JND4 and R6003JND4 utilise proprietary technology to achieve lower switching losses by speeding up reverse recovery time, making them suited for motors.”
