Online shopping goes live in intu Lakeside

Europe’s first robotic retail assistants will go live at intu Lakeside in the UK this weekend after being introduced by robot specialists BotsAndUs to shoppers at intu’s Milton Keynes shopping centre last month.

The robots, which will direct customers to different parts of the centre, are part of an online personal shopper service going live at intu Lakeside this week.

Topshop, Debenhams and hair-stylists Toni and Guy are among those taking part in what is the first initiative of its kind at a European shopping centre.

A Live-chat facility called TokyWoky provides customers with real-time advice on shopping online and at intu’s 14 UK shopping centres.

David Fischel, intu chief executive, writes:

“Retail has always been an inventive industry and the UK has remained at the forefront of this. It’s giving talented start-ups like GoInStore, TokyWoky and BotsAndUs the opportunity to accelerate their businesses as they trial their ideas within live environments and test their potential to shape the future of retail.”

Aman Khurana, GoInStore co-founder, writes:

“It’s been fantastic working with intu to bring a personal shopping experience usually only found in-store to a large online audience in the run up to Christmas.”
