100V mosfet relay leaks only 1pA at 80V

Omron has released 100V and 800mA versions of its low-leakage ‘T-configuration’ mosfet relay modules.

“T-modules offer the reliability and durability of solid state relays combined with an exceptionally low leakage current of just 1pA or less, allowing their use in measurement and other applications where mechanical relays have previously been preferred,” according to the company.

G3VM-101MT handles 100V and 550mA, and G3VM-61MT handles 60V and either 800mA or 400mA. 1pA leakage is specjes at 80V for the 100V part and 50V for the other.

They join the earlier 20V 200mA G3VM-21MT (1pA at 20V) – a part with 30dB isolation at 1GHz, rated at 200mA 20V. All can switch ac or dc voltages. All are 5 x 3.75 x 2.7mm.

They are ac series-shunt-series switches, with the shunt switch driven through the ‘sub’ pin.

Omron G3VMM mosfet relay block“The exceptionally low leakage current of these devices is achieved with a unique ‘T’ circuit structure  [left] that sends most leakage current to ground,” according to the company.

Instead of grounding pin 5, an alternative is to drive it with a unity gain buffer from pin 1.

The reason the 60V version has two current ratings, is that it can handle up to 800mA input-to-output, but only 400mA through the grounding terminal.

If synchronised rather than non-overlapping drive is applied to the sub and main pins, brief short-circuits will be caused. “This product is recommended with dry-switching – no load and no source when switching – to prevent short circuiting,” according to the data sheet. “For that reason, please design the circuit so that equipment damage does not occur.”

Applications are foreseen in test equipment where mechanical relays would normally be used.
