This is the Kofu Factory, closed in October 2014 when it ran 150mm and 200mm wafer lines in its 18,000m2 cleanroom, now to re-open in 2024 “to enhance production capacity for power semiconductors such as IGBTs”, according to the company, adding that power mosfets are another potential product.
Once Kofu reaches mass production, Renesas will have doubled its power semiconductor production capacity, it said
Update: Renesas is to make 750V (220A and 300A) and 1.2kV (150A and 200A) IGBTs here in 2024 on 300mm wafers using its AE5 process.
“This investment enables us to have our largest wafer fabrication line dedicated to power semiconductors, which are key to realising decarbonization,” said Renesas president and CEO Hidetoshi Shibata. “We will continue to conduct necessary investments to enhance our in-house production capability, while strengthening ties with outsource partners. To address the mid to longer term demand growth, Renesas remains committed to ensuring security of supply in order to provide our customers with the best possible support.”
