What started as prototype support and a few thousand assembled PCBs, said Nemco, has grown in excess of 90,000 per year, covering more than 50 different board variations.

“We work really hard to build strategic relationships with our customers – it’s about a lot more than just supplying boards,” said Nemco operations director Bob Parker. “We work with Fortress’ design team on new product introductions and then offer technical advice on the most efficient DfM [design for manufacturing] process.”

Fortress makes safety-interlocks, safety valves and access control equipment for people working in dangerous environments. Its products with Nemco PCBs include: mGard trapped key, proNet, amgard ethernet enabled interlock, Atom and tGard configurable interlocks.

“We need to have really strong relationships with our suppliers in place and the way we work with Nemco is a fantastic blueprint for us to use,” said Fortress head of supply chain Karen Stead. “There’s complete transparency on both sides and the understanding we have built up means we can pull off volumes at relatively short notice.”

Formed in 1985 and currently employing 130 people in a 60,000ft2 facility, Nemco is a member of the Manufacturing Assembly Network (MAN), a collective of sub-contract manufacturers and an engineering design agency.

Forterss manufactures in the UK, USA, Australia and China, and has sales offices in the Netherlands and India.
