Embedded World: Intel, NXP and TI processor modules from TQ

There are two NXP i.MX93 based modules, a single board compute and an evaluation board.

The TQMa93xxLA LGA module and TQMa93xxCA plug-in module are intended to be an upgrade for i.MX-6UL designs – the i.MX-93 processors have two Cortex-A55 cores and Arm’s Ethos-U65 neural processing unit for machine learning computation.

There is also a Cortex-M33 for real-time applications, ‘EdgeLock secure enclave’ for security and a 2D GPU.

Both modules have LPDDR4, Quad-SPI NOR Flash and eMMC  – plus optional external real-time clock, user EEPROM, temperature sensor,  security and gyroscope sensor.

The main boards the 170 x 170mm MBa9xxxCA and the 160 x 100mm MBa9xxxLA.

Built around Intel x86 are the SMARC 2.1-compatible TQMxE41S with Atom x7000E or Core i3-N305 processors. There are ten processor variants from 6 to 15W.

For the first time in this performance segment, said TQ, AVX256 and advanced AI instruction sets (VNNI) as well as deep learning boost from Intel are supported. “Together with the extended security features including TPM 2.0, the module is also particularly well suited for applications in the areas of healthcare, IoT, retail, video and conferencing,” it added.

Intel’s Alder Lake-P ICs are at the heart of the TQMx120 family (12 – 45W) of COM Express modules (pictured), which have up to 14 cores, graphics and AI boost. “In addition, TQ provides a preview of the upcoming modules based on the Intel Raptor Lake processors.”

The TI-centred boards are Linux-ready TQMa62xx, based on Sitara AM62x, will be of interest to “anyone looking for a plus in graphics features, security, TSN-enabled GbE and other industrial interfaces” said TQ prodct manager Andreas Willig.

These come in plug-in as well as a solderable forms, and have up to four Cortex-A53 cores.
