“There are still only a few Matter-compliant solutions on the market, yet the potential for it to deliver convenience and comfort to the places in which we live is huge,” said Murata director of communication Akira Sasaki. “Thanks to the introduction of the LBES5PL2EL, we are now able to provide full support for Matter, including Thread, alongside Wi-Fi 6.”
The nodule is based on NXP’s IW612 single-chip 2.4+5GHz IC and offers: 1×1 dual-band Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Bluetooth 5.3 BR/EDR/LE and IEEE 802.15.4 up to 601Mbit/s PHY data rate on Wi-fi and 2Mbit/s PHY data rate on Bluetooth.
In IEEE 802.11ax Wi-Fi mode, rates of MCS0-MCS11 (up to 1,024QAM) in 20MHz, 40MHz and 80MHz channels are supported for data up to 601Mbit/s.
Related FCC/IC and TELEC certification, plus conductive tests for CE are available.
The WLAN section supports SDIO v3.0 DDR50 interface and the Bluetooth section supports high-speed four-wire UART interfacing and PCM for audio data.
To ease coexistence for the three radios, collaborative hardware mechanisms and algorithms are built in.
LE Audio is included – important for voice-controlled products, said Murata, which continued: “This generation of Bluetooth technology delivers heightened performance, while drawing less power, and is predicted to replace many of the current BR/EDR Bluetooth-based audio connections in the near future.”
Applications are foreseen in home automation equipment, digital assistants, smart domestic appliances, lighting gateways, climate control systems and electric vehicle charging points.
For Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 only, another module, LBEE5PL2DL, is based on NXP’s IW611 and drops the IEEE 802.15.4 interface.
Both LBES5PL2EL and LBEE5PL2DL come in a shielded 8.8 x 7.7 x 1.3mm SMD packaging.
